Slow Travel with Toast

Small group travel to extraordinary places such as France, India and the Caribbean

I created Toast Home Cooking in 2010, after a long career in TV, film and new media. The idea was to empower people to cook good food at home. All around me, I saw take-out meals, restaurants and processed foods supplanting the cozy rituals of home cooking. Not only do I believe cooking your food produces better tasting results, I know it's better for your health, your soul—and the environment.

Dozens of students have cooked with me: elementary school-age kids whipping up soufflés; teenagers creatively filling Vietnamese spring rolls; young, working parents mastering weeknight cooking basics; confident cooks expanding their repertoire; retirees who always wanted to know how to roast a whole fish.

Now, I have expanded the business —  and changed the company name.

Toast at Home and Away leads cooking classes and travel experiences. I'm adding a new service, bringing people to beautiful places on exceptional trips. I'm not a tour operator. I'm simply extending my love of hospitality out into the world. I want to share the people and things I discover during my travels.

The first trip was to South India in 2019. A life changing journey to the spiritual heartland of ancient Tamil Nadu. Just six guests joined me for the 14-day adventure. The second trip to this fascinating place is scheduled for January 23 to February 6, 2024. Come away with us!

Toast Trips are always small and selective, just like Toast's cooking classes. We focus on the food, of course, but mostly on the wider culture. Art, design, music, religion, dance, history. The idea is to immerse ourselves in a place, to come home oxygenated by what we see. I'm excited to share the world with you.
